1 Bedroom • 2 Bathrooms 2 Baths • Sleeps 1-10Hi, thanks for staying with us at Louie’s! Let me tell you a little about this historic lodging. Louie’s at Main Street Lodging was built by my grandpa Louie Bobbera in 1956 as Louie’s Esso Service Station. This building is the only surviving gas station that served Gilbert and the surrounding communities and is considered a historic landmark in the town of Gilbert. Louie was a first generation American. His parents, Valentino and Giuditta, emigrated to the US from Northern Italy; settling first in Colorado before moving to West Virginia for work at Glen Alum Coal Company. Grandpa was an excellent athlete and was offered a football scholarship to Notre Dame. He was drafted into the US Army at the start of WWII and was in the 372nd Field Artillery Battalion. After leaving service he worked as a coal miner and later in law-enforcement as a WV Parole Officer. In 1956 he opened Louie’s Esso and successfully operated the business until it closed in the 1990s.
